Description

I have a 12 Guage Shotgun by Pietro Beretta Brescia, on the under side it written MonoBloc Hamm Brevetto Beretta 1922. Its packed in a box which has an sticker of E.M.Reilly & Co, Oxford Street, near Regent Circus, London. It was given to my grandfather when he was Deputy Commissioner in Afghanistan in 1949-50. Its a double barrel side by side shotgun with 30 inches barrel and both the barrels are full chokes. its got original cleaning rods and an oild canister in the box, which still some oil in it. i would like to know a little more about this shotgun, for who was it made and what's its current value?

Provenance

As far as i know it was owned by the King Amanuallah Khan of Afghanistan and was gifted to my Grandfather in 1949-50 when he was deputy commissioner in Kabul, Afghanistan. It was later passed on to my father and then to me. it has never been exhibited.

What does this mean?

Dear Syed,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a Beretta Victoria - Brevetto 1922 break-action shotgun. It has the serial number 51435 and a MonoBloc Hamm Brevetto system. This 12 gauge shotgun was highly possible made or used by the King Amanullah Khan of Afghanistan as we can see on inscriptions and dedications. Usually, such shotguns are estimated between 300 to 900 USD.
This piece is in medium condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 1.500 to 3.000 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg

Well unfortunately we don’t have papers and at that time I don’t think their were any papers given with the shotgun. The barrel sleeve has Amanullah’s name written in gold and on top of the stock is another gold plate with my grandfather’s name Muhammad Zaman Khan in local language of that time I. Afganistan.
