Wooden 17th century Spanish galleon: San Juan Nepomuceno
22 November 2020
Description

This is a custom model of the 17th century San Juan Nepomuceno galleon. I have taken this ship with me across the Atlantic twice during its construction (Moscow, U.S., Germany)... this took over 6 years to build starting in August 2014 and completing in November 2020. The kit and extra material (not including tools) cost over $1400 over the years. It is made with a boxwood frame internally, and wrapped with planks of walnut, mahogany, boxwood, oak, and even some of the rigging blocks on the anchors I made from a London Plane tree from our street in Paris. The sails are a linen or cotton material I reinforced with acrylic along with the flags I had custom printed in England. The gold Spanish lion figurehead (oak) is one of the pieces I hand carved from a piece of wood from the oak tree in the film Shawshank Redemption (the tree seen at the end of the film) after it fell in Ohio due to a storm in 2016. The ship is 38" long, 16" wide (main mast yard width), and 29 inches tall. It weighs 3.8 lbs total.

Provenance

I just spent over 6 years building it during my travels overseas and home in the U.S. Having completed it, I wanted to establish a value for it.
