Shozaburo’s “Feast at a water-side pavilion”.

Description

18th Century Japanese wood-block art piece. Frame is 15 1/2” X 11 1/2”. Old parchment paper on back labels it Feast At A Water-Side Pavilion, being made by an artist named Shozaburo with his “shop name” as “Tajimaya. It says the artist sustained his family by drawing pictures at Tamachi Akasaka. Beloved to be the founder of Utagawa School. The artist died at the age of 78 in the year 1814.

Provenance

The painting was apparently held in high regard by a Japanese restaurant owner in the LA area. This is according to the man I purchased it from.
