Description

Rocking Chair has been in the family for over 50 years; possibly 60. The seat has a cloth over what I think is the original cover. There is also a picture of the underside of the seat showing the springs. Damage limited to crack in one arm.

Provenance

It has just always been....as far back as I can remember as a child it was in the house.

Hi Cathy,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. The crack in the arm could affect the value - it depends on how significant it is and where it is. So that I may best assist you, can you please take a photograph or two of it and upload it?

Thanks!
Delia

Thanks very much, Cathy, for the photographs of the damage to the arm. Because it doesn't structurally affect the chair but is more of a visual impairment, the detriment to the value is minimized.
If you'd like this appraisal to include dimensions, please send me the height, width across arms and depth of the rockers (in inches) at your convenience.
Based on the photographs and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

An English style maple ladderback rocking armchair

with four shaped ladders, flat cabriole profile arms raised on baluster-turned supports, over a sprung trapezoidal slip seat, over inverted tulip-form feet, on rockers
[dimensions]
PROVENANCE: inherited
CONDITION: spliced break and repair to proper right arm adjacent to stile; does not affect structural integrity of the chair
$50-75*
