Description

Piece shown is an actual one-of-a-kind actual drawing by former long time political cartoonist Hugh Haynie. Cartoon was actually drawn on Nov 3, 1964 which was election night for the presidential race between Lyndon Johnson and Barry Goldwater. The cartoon depicts the two candidates as being the popular "Tortoise & Hare" in a race. The drawing appears to have been done specifically as a gift to a "Ned and Bill" as this is for whom the artist dedicated it to as shown in the photo. The piece has been professionally framed and is behind glass. The frame itself measures 19 inches by 17 inches. Hugh Haynie Signed and dated the drawing as shown.

Provenance

Acquired from the former estate of a collector and historian. This gentleman's grandfather was a former politician, and at one point served as the Lieutenant Governor for the state of Tennessee during the mid 1960's, which as shown, was when this drawing was done and signed. So this item was acquired and owned by him originally, then given to his grandson.

Hello and thank you so much for the quick response and appraisal. I do not plan on keeping this item, and was wondering if you could recommend an auction house to use for it, or perhaps another means of locating a potential collector or buyer. Thank you.

Dear Bryan,

thank you for your message. I recommend an auction house close to a big city like New York to reach out to the right buyers. Ro Gallery in Long Island City had some drawings of this artist in 2011 offered in an auction.

With kind regards,
Georg
