The specialist needs more information

Hello again Philippe,

I am very sorry for the delay in your appraisal for this item. I am only assigned to Prints and was not able to grab this one until it went overdue. Are you able to upload another image of this item. In order to properly attribute the work to an artist or publisher, I'll need to get a closer look at the inscription to the lower right. I know you mentioned in the other items that you had some item damaged during shipping. Was this part of that? If so, I may not be able to specifically attribute the work. However, I can definitely provided a more general appraisal for you. Let me know how you would like to proceed. Thank you!

Thank you much for your report.
Regrettably I cannot provide you with additional photos, or information.. This piece, and the Takeshita wood block prints I submitted for appraisal, were in a "bombproof" shipment I sent to one of my children, the box being 24" by 40", solid as a rock. After a cross country journey, at the delivery office, it was reported to me (on my inquiry), that the contents, "a broken mirror", had been discarded! So any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Ironically, having had this object in my house for 40 years, I never really tried to ascertain its precise nature or provenance. It was an exquisite image, with irridescent colors.
Anything you can do to at least get close to its origin will be greatly appreciated. All I really know is that my (deceased) father in law purchased it in the late 40s while stationed in Japan as a fighter pilot.

Hi Philippe. I am sorry again to hear about the loss of these items. I can definitely provide a more general appraisal estimate for this item. Based on the information provided, a secondary market or fair market estimate for this work would likely be about $100 - 800. That estimate is based on recent auction estimates and results of similar depictions of Japanese scroll paintings dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, measuring in similar dimensions. Again, if you happen to have additional information regarding the inscription or artist attribution, please let me know. I'd be glad to update the estimate. Certain artist attributions may result in higher estimates. Thank you again.
