What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto. This is a nephrite jade sculpture of birds and roses against a gnarled tree trunk. Roses are symbolic of purity and longevity in Chinese culture. It was probably made during the mid-20th century. If the marking at the bottom read “China,” we can assume it was made for the export market.

The carved hardwood base is common for a piece such as this. Auction results for sculptures like these will vary. Based on sales of similar items at auction, the Fair Market Value of this piece is between $100 and $200.
