Greetings, I am interested in which culture this piece is from (or based on) and whether it is a reproduction. I recently acquired it at a local yard sale. It is very heavy hardwood which seems to have been lacquered at some point in it's life ( based on a seam of wood-rot running down the back of the piece my guess is that someone wanted to stabilize it or make darker to 'look nice'.) The few incuts that have not been lacquered are thick with dust. The lacquer seems very soft and can be scratched or chipped with a plastic tool. There are no words or marking anywhere on the piece. I have found two other examples of carvings with similar figures on them, bearing the diagonal cross-hatched motif, the 3 or 4 'feather' headress at the top, the lines on the cheeks, and slanting inwards slit eyes. I hope you can tell me some more, and give me a better idea of what I have. Thank you! ~Nathanael
