Glass Torso with marble pedestal - signed Roth or Roih or Boih??
08 December 2020
Description

The sculpture itself is about 30 inches and it has what appears to be bronze designs embedded in the torso. The base is black marble and also measures about 30 inches. There is a signature etched in the glass but it is very fine and hard to read. It is 4 letters and I think it might be Roth, Roih Boih ??

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please upload an image of the signature?

Thanks in advance!

Hello - the sculpture is at my dad's place and I don't have a photo of the signature. It is very faint and very hard to see. I won't be able to get a photo until this weekend. How would I send that to you once I have it?

You should be able to upload additional images to this page but if you have trouble doing that, please let me know and I'll ask our IT / support dept to help.

I see the add images link now. It might be a few days before I can get that image of the signature up though. My dad doesn't have a smart phone. Will let you know once it is added. Do you have any ideas who it could be based on the info you have?

I've run through several variations based on the letters you've suggested without coming up with a match; seeing the signature is usually really helpful.

Hello - I finally got a photo of the signature. It is either ROIH or Roth or BOIH or Both from what I can make out. I will upload it now.

Hi Stacey,
The signature is really helpful but after a thorough search trying a variety of combinations of those letters, I'm not coming up with a match. It's not unusual for that to happen - perhaps the artist didn't make very many, or didn't sell enough to have a record for the databases. If this were to go to auction, I would expect it to be catalogued as:

International School, 20th Century
Contemporary Art Glass Torso on a black marble base
signed indistinctly
30 inches high
PROVENANCE: inherited
$1000-1500*
