What does this mean?

Hi Michael,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
Hinke was best known for his illustration art, seasonal and religious imagery; this is atypical of his work, and fairly small, both characteristics keep the value low.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

George Hinke (German / American, 1883-1953)
Untitled still life: Flowers in a vase, undated
oil on wood panel, in a carved giltwood frame
apparently unsigned
15 3/4 by 12 1/2 inches (40 by 32 cm)
CONDITION: some crackelure throughout, and minor losses to frame.
PROVENANCE: descended in the client's family, a relative of the artist
$700-1,000*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
