Framed Antique Japanese Art from L. S. Gandini
09 April 2019
Description

I have inherited two (2) Japanese art pieces that appear to be fairly old….they were purchased from L. S. Gandini in Chertsey, Surrey, England likely in the late 1970's or early 1980's (the phone # on the back is only 5 digits, eluding to older art). The pieces I believe represent yinyang (in-yo)…but perhaps you can provide further insight to this as well. Unknown whether done by ink or by watercolor. Outside frame measures 24 inches long by 19 inches wide.

What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. This appears to be a later re-cut and faded japanese woodblock print after Chikanobu Yoshu (1838-1912), depicting a japanese lady, possibly done early 20th century. The other print by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) is titled Yoshitoshi musha burui 芳年武者旡類 and has also faded. The estimate is based on similar prints offered or sold at auction. The estimate is for the two prints together.
