What does this mean?

Hi Kris,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
This looks like it's a seriolithograph print, rather than an original painting, which would be considerably more valuable. If you have a closer look and it turns out to be an original painting or watercolor please let me know and I'll amend this appraisal.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

Barbara A. Wood (American, 20/21st century)
"Lilacs and Roses" (n.d.)
seriolithograph, signed in the plate
36 by 43 inches, framed
PROVENANCE: acquired in a home purchase
$50-75*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.

We were told it was an original. How would we know? It came from first impressions fine art company.

It also says 57/975 on the bottom left and her signature along with another signature on white matting

That number means that this was the 57th copy of 975 that were made, so not an original. She may very well have signed it in the white margins outside of the picture (the colorful image is called the 'plate') - those are usually in pencil. If you can take a photograph of both I can confirm.

Ok I will do that no problem. I’m not at home but will get back ASAP!

Delia Jan 07, 21:05 UTC

No hurry on my end - thanks so much!

Good morning, Kris,
Yes, that's what's happened here. Looks like Barbara signed these seriolithograph prints. Original in that they are individual (there was not another 57/975) but not one of a kind - there are 974 more like it from that particular print run. I'm afraid the value stands at $50-75.
