This is an antique, Chippendale style, slant front desk with amphitheatre interior when the slat front is opened over 4 graduated drawers and bracket carved feet. The wood appears to be maple. The desk was hand constructed with fine, thin dovetailing. It is made in what is referred to as a vernacular manner, meaning likely not produced by a furniture guild or atelier. There is a past owner name and year written on the underside of a drawer which states Julia Beck 1888. This is more than likely older than 1888 and could date to the late 18th century, from the Georgian or Federal era and possibly American from New England.
