Various Japanese paintings purchased in Hiroshima shortly after WWII
17 April 2024
Description

My British father in law was seconded to an Australian regiment present in Japan after WWII as part of his national service. While there, stationed in the Hiroshima area, he visited a shop selling artworks and, impressed by the quality, he purchased all the available paintings. We know very little about them, the materials used, the artist(s) the style, or anything else, but as he will possibly be moving into a nursing home soon we would like to know more about these, so that we know what to do with them. I am afraid the quality of the photos I have attached is not very high. The paintings are all framed and behind glass and I do not want to take them out of their frames unless there it is sensible to do so; hopefully you will be able to give some initial feedback that will allow us to decide if this is the case.
