My grandmother had this and has been stored in a bag for..ever! I can't find much information about it online and the only thing that I see are items in The Metropolitan Museum of Art display. It's a really unique coat and the interior label is her signature name and "styles exclusive with I. Magnin" Almost positive it's from the 1940s era and is in beautiful condition. Just needs to be professionally cleaned. It's very heavy and fully lined but doesn't have a size or fabric content tag. I believe it's wool and pretty positive about that. I need some help with this and reaching out to see the value. I have been on a vintage blog and received a ton of feedback. Some are vintage sellers and have great advice and some want to buy it from me. Just need a ballpark range and see where to go from there. It's in pristine condition but not sure if I should have it professionally cleaned at this time. Thank you!

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
It is a beautiful vintage coat. Such vintage designer clothes are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
Nettie Rosenstein was a high end brand that created trendy and elegant clothes and jewellery. I agree that the coat/cape is from the 1940s when this type of style was trendy. The fact that it is well kept and in good condition is good for the price. If you choose to dry clean the coat I would recommend that the dry cleaner you choose is used to handling items like this. A coat like yours would certainly attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction. As for the value it is not the most sought after designer nor style when talking about vintage clothing, however the condition and brand should attract attention.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online designer clothes auction, where I believe the coat has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the Nettie Rosenstein coat. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help.
Thank you
The price is based on similar items being sold at auction worldwide. I am aware that vintage clothes retailers often pay more for items like this than they are sold for at auction. However this is the price you could expect if it was sold at auction at present.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I’m happy to help. Thank you
Do you provide comps so I can get an idea of "the worldwide auctions?" Or items that sold ? I thought this appraisal was going to be a little more detailed. If it's worldwide and similar items assuming a coat than I would appreciate that in my appraisal. When you obtain an appraisal for a house they certainly disclose the comps in determining the value. Can you provide me with where you valued the coat from the worldwide market.? How many Nettie Rosenstein coats did you compare it to? What specialized market?
I feel like this was a waste of my money. I know who the designer is and about her history that you can pull up on any Google search. I'm extremely disappointed in this service.

Ok thank you
Hello Melissa,
Thank you very much for your patience. I spoke with Sabrina, your appraisal specialist and she provided the following comparables:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/747454521/vintage-designer-nettie-rosenstein-black
Of course, these are not an exact match to your item. Sabrina noted that some appear to be of slightly higher quality than your coat. She also took into account that these comparables demonstrate retail or asking prices, which tend to be higher than auction prices.
I hope that this has sufficiently addressed your concerns. If there is anything else that I can do to help, please just let me know!
Best regards,
Lindsey
I have an ebay and etsy account so this was really a lame appraisal. I already knew that and the coat is of much better quality like the one featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This was completely a waste of time and money. I could have looked up etsy and ebay....which I already did.
After almost a month later...No. Totally not happy
Ok. Well that was not at all what I expected. I have had a few vintage sellers and owners offer prices that are exceedingly higher than that appraisal. Can I ask how you got that price point? What comps? Everything that was said in the report is information I could have found online. I know who Nettie Rosenstein is and her background as a designer. I know that wikipedia can tell me all this. How did you value the coat at that price? You valued a bathing suit of hers for $500.
