What does this mean?

Hi Betty,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. So that I may best assist you, can you please advise if either of these are signed (probably on the bottom) as there may be some difference in value depending on who made them.

Thanks very much,
Delia

I’m sorry I do not see any marking on the bottom. When purchased about 10 years ago I believe I paid approximately $3000 Canadian for the pair (I unfortunately don’t have the receipt any longer)

No worries, Betty,

Fair-market / auction values on unattributed contemporary Murano glass wares is a little soft but this is a very handsome pair though it would be highly unlikely that you would recoup what you paid for them 10 years ago.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A pair of modern Murano hand-blown baluster-form pale green glass table lamps
unattributed maker, made in Venice, Italy, 21st Century
Each in pale green glass of elegant ribbed baluster form raised over a ribbed globe, all on four short feet.
each approximately 24 inches high
PROVENANCE: acquired about 10 years ago
$1,000-1,500*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.

Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, and thank you again for using Mearto.

Thank you Delia. One of my lamps was broken accidentally by a serviceman we had in our home. So that is the reason I am getting the lamp appraised. The company that is responsible for paying for the damage has been challenging me and all I want is to be paid fairly and not to profit, although all the back and forth has been time consuming. Two questions for you... if I understand correctly I should quote $2500 because of damages. Is that correct? Could you provide something I could officially submit to them? Thank you.

Unfortunately, Mearto does not provide insurance appraisals. What I can do - if you can send me good photos of the damage - is give you an idea of what the pair is worth with the damage (the appraised value I gave was assuming the condition was excellent.) Your insurance company may accept the two appraisals as an evaluation of the damages... I would check with them first to see if they will accept it. If they don't, I can suggest other options but that would be the first place to start.
