What does this mean?

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your patience.

Sadly regarding technical problems, the images and messages were not displayed. I apologize for the delay of the appraisal.

The presented object appears to be an ink drawing on paper with the measurements of 13 x 10 inches. The drawing depicts the face of a bearded man in profile. The motif could be meant as Jesus Christ and was made in the second half of the 20th century. Sadly there is no signature visible or this drawing could be attributed to a known artist with the motif or the style as an argument.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 50 to 100 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

With kind regards,
Georg

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your email. That means that it is not possible in the background of this apprisal to identify the artist.

With kind regards,

I am disappointed with this appraisal. I have had a number of appraisals from your Group in fact I purchased a pack of 10. This appraisal really told me very little that I did not list in the description. I should not be charged for this "appraisal". In the future if you people can really appraise an Item you should say so up front .
Thank you

Dear Steve,

I can understand your disappointment. Sadly from time to time, there are artworks that leave questions open. I named the dating, the motif, and an actual market price. Attribution to an artist would include for example intense library research which would not be in proportion in an potential market value. It is also for me frustrating to leave this riddle unsolved.

With kind regards,
Georg

I understand that It is also for you frustrating to leave this riddle unsolved. But you are being paid for your frustration and I am paying for my disappointment .
This to me does not seem " Good Business Policy "

Hello Steve,

Thank you very much for your appraisal purchases. I apologize for any misunderstanding and I realize that this may disappoint, but Georg has provided the product that you purchased, which is a fair market valuation (online appraisal) of the presented item. Because there is no signature and the motif / style is not immediately recognizable, he was not able to provide an attribution without further research. Please note that there is a difference between an appraisal and an attribution. We do offer other products that dive deeper and go beyond what we're able to provide in a $19 online appraisal. One of those products is authentication / attribution research, which is described on this page: https://mearto.com/authenticate. Because attribution research requires significantly more time (10+ hours) and access to different resources (art libraries and archives), our price for this product is much higher -- starting at $800 for a 20+ page illustrated report of findings. If you are interested in this, you're welcome to reach out to me directly to discuss it in further detail. However, given Georg's estimated potential value, you may decide (and it is my recommendation) that this piece is not worth such in-depth review.

Alternatively, you could try to remove the piece from its frame and see if it is signed anywhere. If you find a signature, Georg can update his valuation, as needed.

I'm happy to provide an additional credit on your account because of the confusion. In the future, if you have any questions about the differences between our products, i.e. online appraisal, authentication and attribution, please do not hesitate to ask!

Best regards,
Lindsey Bourret
