What does this mean?

Hello Frieda,

Thank you very much for purchasing an appraisal of your item.

Unfortunately, from the three images provided I believe that this is a granite rock. Granite is formed when magma, or molten rock, cools and crystallizes underground. The slow cooling process allows the minerals in the magma to grow into large crystals. This explains the coarse-grained texture. The composition of granite can vary depending on the composition of the magma that it formed from. However, granite is typically composed of quartz, feldspar, mica and amphibole.

Overall, granite is a versatile and durable rock that has been used for a variety of purposes throughout history. It is a popular choice for countertops, flooring, building materials, and monuments. It is not considered a precious stone or gem and diamonds are not typically found in granite. Diamonds are formed under extreme heat and pressure conditions in the Earth's mantle, while granite is formed from magma that cools and crystallizes underground. The conditions that form granite are not hot and pressurized enough to form diamonds.

You could further research your specimen, in-person with a regional geology organization, or university department. However, if the object is indeed granite, it does not have any real value.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know in the comments section below.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Kind regards,
Anne
