1924 S/N 26064882 7 Jewel
Hello Roy and Mike,
Thank you for sending in this pocket watch to mearto.com for an appraisal.
Lady’s, Art Deco era, gold filled (possibly 14k gold), 6/0size, pendant wound and pendant set, open face pendant watch or wristwatch, grade 431, S/N 26064882, made by the Elgin Watch Company of Elgin Illinois, made circa 1924.
Case – Size 6/0, gold filled or 14k gold, ladies, open face pendant watch or wristwatch with a gilt aperture at the six position on the case for threading a necklace though the small clasp or attaching a bracelet to make it into a wrist watch. The missing pendant bow would prevent its use as a wristwatch. There is a fluted coin shaped crown sitting upon a gilt round stem at the twelve position and it is missing its bow. The back cover is not shown but there is a broad polished gilt bezel around the dial.
Dial: Champagne colored dial with black enameled Breguet type Arabic hour chapter ring, closed bar minute track, sunken subsidiary seconds dial @6, steel ‘Solid Mirabile’ hands and the upper dial marked, “Elgin”.
Movement: This is a damascened nickel split three quarter plate, size 6/0 ladies open face pendant watch, the grade 431, model 2, made by the Elgin Watch Company of Elgin, Illinois. Serial number is 26064882 and the watch was made in 1924 in a production run of 2000 such units, each with 7 jewels. The watch is pendant wound and pendant set and has a going barrel (implies that the mainspring keeps functioning during the winding of the watch), quick train (implies a watch vibrating at more than 18000 beats per hour), monometallic balance wheel, plain index regulator, not adjusted for position, nor temperature and not of railroad grade.
Condition: Watch case is either gold filled or carries a gold hallmark for 14k. The inside of the back cover is not shown, nor the outside of the cover. Dial -Appears to be in good original condition including original art deco Mirabile hands. Movement: Considered original to this case, genuine and in functional condition.
Pricing is going to be with the case assumed to be gold filled and no bracelet nor necklace present.

~The pocket watch database analyzed 130 sales of this type of wrist or pendant watch and found, in this condition with a gold filled case, that they ranged from $70-$80 without bracelet or necklace.
