This seems to be a rifle made by D. Gerheart from PA. It is approx 5' 6" long with a barrel that is 8 sided on the outside and 7 on the inside. There is lots of brass and even some silver decor. 2 hearts. 1 silver and 1 brass which I would assume was his trademark. It also has the bullet mold an a tiny hammer that looks like it might have been used to tap the bullet out once cooled. It is approx. a .38 cal. I do have many pics that I can share.
It was owned by Enos Shieffler documented in 1846 who was also from PA. It was noted that it was used to hunt game while being transported in a wagon train during this year. At the age of 40 he joined the Civil War. The rifle was passed down through the family.
