Dove in white and gray very fine ceramic Porecelain by team sculptors Agnes Decoux and Serge Bottagisio, France
13 June 2018
Description

It is a sculpture of a dove in white and gray; sail of dove flying is in paper thin porcelain and referred to as "drapery". Plates are draped as are two tea pots. This appraisal requested here is for the dove, one piece. Purchased in Holland at shop called Kunst & Keramiek, Galerie Korte Assenstraat 15, Deventer , Holland, Netherlands Purchased and mailed to us December 7, 1989. The dove, 2 plates and two teapots arrived in perfect condition. All pieces including dove are signed "Bottagisio-Decoux - 89". The dove depicts (depicted) flight with two billowing, fine draped sails. The dove is 16 " long, 7 1/4" high and approximately 3 1/2 " wide. It was a set of five to me. Included dove, two plates and two teapots. In researching these pieces I discover that the sculptors are France's widely recognized outdoor life size garden sculptors. Widely recognized for their talent as you will see in your search engine. I tried to make contact but to no avail. In 1989 I paid F 1450 French francs for the five pieces. Mailing was an additional F 190 French francs

Provenance

The pieces were on exhibit at the Galerie as you can absorb from the flyer. That is when we saw them displayed in the window in 1989. The Galerie was closed that Sunday. They were purchased new and hand delivered to the Galerie by artists. Galerie was Kunst & Keramiek, Galerie Korte Assenstraat 15, Deventer , Holland, Netherlands

What does this mean?

Thank you for submitting your item for appraisal. As you already know everything about the artists, I will skip that part of the appraisal. The delicate "dove" sculpture is very unique and and apparently an early work by Les Botta, who are now better known for the garden sculptures. Very few ceramic works of art by Serge Bottagisio & Agnès Decoux have been offered or sold on the secondary art market. In general the enthusiams for ceramics has ceased a little and prices are down. The estimate is based on similar offered or sold at auction.
