Hi Kathy,

Thanks for additional pictures. Your art wall hanging was part of a Chinese folding screen to divide a room of add some privacy. These screens are made in traditional way back to ancient history ( Zhou period, 771–256 BC ). When a screen was damaged sometimes some panels were '' saved'' by making it into an other art. I guess that is what happened with your panel. You can see on both sides it came from a larger picture. Folding screens with Stone / shell / bone inlay became popular early 20th century although there are older examples. I believe the screen is from around 1930 and the frame is a little later mid 20th century. It's well done and very decorative so despite of it being a fragment I still believe there is a market for it.

Regards,

Simon Breider

The entire piece measures 24" by 54" The eagle itself measures 10" by 10" comes out from the background about an inch and is made of either mother of pearl or abalone shells. I will try to send a picture of the backside of art piece also.
