What does this mean?

Dear Sandeep,

Thank you for providing the additional photos. Your platter is made out of stoneware and is hand-painted with a Canton design accented with a yunwen, cloud and thunder, meander. The platter appears to be in good to fair condition with a slight hairline crack. The piece does not come from the Song Dynsaty. Pieces from this era are typically glazed in a celadon color, also the Canton pattern or motif was not introduced until the late 18th century. I believe that is a piece is the 20th century, the bottom of the piece has been forced aged. This means that it was made to look older than it really is. Based on recent price realizations for items similar to yours a fair market value would be between 250-300 USD. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Morgan

Hi! Sorry about the delay. Unlike silver or other metals, the weight of ceramics does not affect the value. The heaviness of the object only tells us what it is made from. Your platter was constructed out of stoneware, meaning that it has other elements mixed in with the clay, it does not have a fine constancy as porcelain and it is also fired at a lower temperature. I hope this helps.
