Dear Andrew, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. The Chinese jade pendant, acquired in the 1980s, is a captivating example of Chinese lapidary artistry. Composed of what appears to be soapstone or butter stone, the pendant's smooth and weighty texture is a testament to the artisan's skill in carving and polishing this exquisite material. The pendant's design features two spinning wheels, a delightful and dynamic addition that adds a playful element to the piece. The wheels, possibly indicative of a traditional Chinese motif, contribute to the pendant's whimsical charm. The absence of an artist signature or mark suggests that the pendant may be the result of skilled artisanal craftsmanship rather than a specific individual artist, emphasizing the collective expertise and tradition from which it originates. Jade holds profound cultural significance in China, symbolizing virtue, purity, and longevity. The smoothness of the skin and the weightiness of the pendant underscore the quality of the jade, making it not only an aesthetically pleasing adornment but also a meaningful cultural artifact. The acquisition of the pendant from China in the 1980s further adds a layer of historical context, representing a period of increased interest in Chinese art and artifacts. Very good condition overall. Retail prices may vary
