What does this mean?

Dear Frank,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a double-barrel WW Greener shotgun with a barrel length of 27 inches. Greener has two addresses in Haymarket London & St. Marys Square Birmingham England.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 600 to 1.200 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg

Can you describe how you came to that number? I had this firearm independently appraised and had a much higher value. Can you explain to me how you came to this number, it doesn't appear that provide any justification or detail on the pricing

Dear Frank,

We adapt our estimations to actual and reached auction results of the last years. This process mirrors a comparative value and mirrors an actual market situation. This means also that an object should not just be adapted to the highest hammer prices and you also have to see the mid-range and low range hammer prices to define an adequate estimate.

With kind regards,
Georg

Hi can you send me the examples I had 2 other items appraised and they were very detailed with auction examples. You did not provide much insight beside what I could find with a few minutes on google please provide more details

George Oct 27, 16:31 UTC

Dear Frank,

I attach an auction result example. You have to keep in mind that from this hammer price you have to pay the production like logistics, photography, and cataloging by the auction house and the fee for the auction itself. Usually, this is between 15 to 30% of the hammer price.

This rifle with the same "Grade F" barrel was hammered down for 1.000 USD.
