Hello Shirley, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Oriental Rug Made in Jordan. The piece likely dates back to the period between 1980-2000. The pieces that are knotted in Jordan usually depicts pattern from Persian Rugs and Kilims. Jordan does have a limited weaving tradition of rugs in comparison to Iran or Turkey. This piece clearly influenced by Persian Soumakh Kilim patterns and made for touristic souvenir purposes. The piece was decorated by bright colours in general, if we compare with Persian pieces we can clearly see that these colours are brighter and more plastic. The piece's central decoration was dominated by two chest motifs decorated by foralmotifs and ram horns internally. Interior base of he chests were decorated by a bright red base while the central decoration is knotted on a dark blue base as well as the main border. Main Border was constructed by a florally decorated chain. Knot quality of the piece is average. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition with minimal signes of age and use. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 7 Feet 5 Inches by 4 Feet 7 Inches Condition: The piece is in good condition with minimal signes of age and use. Provenance: Unknown. 300-400$.
