Hello Normand, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Chinese Oriental Style Rug, dating back to the period between 1980-1995. The Chinese weaving ateliers which produced similar pieces to your rugs were established in the late 1970's to meet the demand for Oriental pieces in Western market. They've blended the Chinese tradition with the oriental rug design nd obtained an interesting hybrid. Your piece's design patternis entirely floral with some Chinese style decorative elemnts as repeating motifs. Originally, it's base is probably ivory coloured but the current colour is muddy due to the dirt or dust on the piece. This piece was centrally decorated, therefore you can easily detect the central medallion placed on the piece. This central medallion is composed of four floral motifs surrounding a Chinese "Human" motif. The central area of the rug is mostly blank, it has a simplistic design to fir in a modern interior decoration. The piece's knot density is average for the period and for the origin. Motifs were rendered in average quality. The piece was knotted wool on wool and do not have fringes at the moment. Originally, most of the pieces from Chinese weaving houses had fringes, so I belive it was removed by the current owner or by the exporting company. We can see roses, butterflies and cherry blossoms in the border decoration. The wool quality of the piece is average, it seems like industrial quality wool was used on the piece.
