What does this mean?

Dear Jaimie,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a giclee print on canvas or print ob board or paper with the measurements of 43 x 35 cm. This print was made after a painting by the Australian artist Sir William Dobell (1899-1970) with the title Wangi Boy" from 1948. This print was made in the second half of the 20th century.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 70 to 150 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.

With kind regards,
Georg

Hi Georg
I'm no art expert but I've seen another Wangi Boy for sale asking over $2000 (on gumtree currently). The back looks IDENTICAL mine even the tape and wire are the same. Are you certain mine is only worth $70-150USD?

I've added a couple pics of the back and a close up of the print itself, just to be sure. Thank you so much for your time. Regards Jaimie

Hi Georg here is a link of the one that looks similar to mine on ebay;

Dear Jaimie,

Thank you for your email. Sadly such reproductions after paintings are quite often on the market and are not connected with the artist directly. The link you send me is not an open auction it is an asking price. Sometimes people upload pieces with astronomical prices on eBay which are not connected to a fair market price situation.

With kind regards,
Georg

So you stand by your evaluation of $70-150USD?

George Feb 15, 14:51 UTC

Dear Jamie,

I am sorry that you expected more. Sadly this is a reproduction and this print has a slight color loss and the whole image appears to be greenish because the red-colored pigments are the most sensitive pigments for three-color printing.

With kind regards,
Georg
