Hello Christopher, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Kayserie Silk Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1975 to 1998. Kayserie pieces are one of the highest quality piece from the Turkish weaving tradition, only known as the second best rug to the Hereke pieces. The piece is knotted very carefully with high quality technique and high quality materials as well as high quality colours. The piece has a classical Kayserie pattern with a central medallion. The central medallion is characterized by a coral colour alongside floral motifs. The whole pattern of the piece is florally constructed. There are two smaller lanterns hanging from both sides from the medallion. The central area is decorated on a shiny Turquoise base while the borders are decorated on a coral coloured base. At the top of the composition there are two symmetrical motifs of "Boteh" which are adopted from the Persian style pieces and the motif is originally Persian. The piece was not bought from Middle East but was bought from the Aegean Region of Turkey in the city of Aydın. The piece's knot density is quite high as usual to high-end Kayserie pieces, therefore the motifs are rendered very clearly. The piece is knotted silk on silk which means both the piece's foundation and pile is made of silk. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 124 Centimeters by 78 Centimeters Condition: The piece is in good condition without any visible problems. Provenance: Purchased from Turkey in 1998. Heavily decorated by traditional Kayserie patterns. 1600-2500$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
