Turkish Rug (Santa Clause?)

Purchased in Turkey (like Ankara) from a rug dealer around 1980. Unknown date of creation. Fair condition (color fading around edges a bit), and separation in certain areas (although this seems intentional). Pictures show both of these.

Dear Tony, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry and for all the new information. Based on everything, I concluded that this item is: A Noel Baba Turkish Kilim Rug, handwoven, from circa 1940s. Noel Baba (Father Noel) is the Turkish version of Père Noël, which is a widely celebrated figure for New Year celebrations, substituting Christmas Holiday in predominantly Christian countries. He does not represent a religious persona but merely a secular imaginary figure. One of the most popular materials for rugs is wool, a natural textile fiber. Wool rugs are quite resilient and perfectly equipped to withstand wear and tear from regular use. Overall, the rug is in fair condition.
