The Tibetan pieces are always made of wool. To be more specific, the wool of the type of sheep that adapted to life on high altitudes. These Tibetan pieces, especially exported ones are nowadays knotted mostly in Nepal or India. The export market for rugs in Tibet is less developed in comparison to those in Nepal and India. Knot density of your piece is quite high in comparison to what we observe nowadays in the market with a knot density of 100 KPSI. The border decoration of your piece seems characteristic for the Tibetan Rug tradition. The central decoration on the other hand probably influenced from the later Chinese piece which dominated both the Eastern and the Western market for a period. The rug seems intact but alsa has wear due to probably use, age of exposure to light. Your piece is designed without the fringes as we usually see in the later Tibetan style production.
