Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry, and I apologize for the delay. This is a Smith and Wesson Model 1, 3rd issue. The model 1 was produced from 1857-1882, and the 3rd issue guns were produced from 1868-1882. The model 1 was Smith and Wesson's first revolver, and it was the first commercially successful rimfire revolver in the world. The original factory records for years of production are not complete, but this pistol was made between 1871-1875, making it about 150 years old! It is chambered in the .22 short black powder cartridge. These guns were widely popular during and after the Civil War as personal defense weapons. This piece is in overall good condition, with no visible mechanical or structural problems. There is still a good amount of original blued finish remaining, and no active rust on the steel. There is some light pitting and corrosion throughout, which is consistent with its age. The grips are also in good shape, with some of the original sealant still present. Given the condition of this piece, and completed auctions of similar items, a fair market estimation is 600-650 dollars. Please reach out with any questions. Bo Stuck
