Small table
27 November 2021
Description

Small table with a brass dish and a storage compartment with lid. It has a T shaped piece of wood in the compartment. Under the brass dish is the number 93. It has a knob on the top to pick it up. It measures 19"high, 17.5"long and 9"wide. Not sure what type of wood was used. I thought it might be an old opium or tobacco table.

Provenance

It was acquired from an estate sale. The person did Chinese scroll with symbols art as a hobby. Not sure if it was used for art in some form

Hi Delia,
The knob snaps in to a hole in the top. At some point it was secured with glue. I can still pick it up when it is back in place

I added a picture of the knob

Thanks, Dave. This is a very English/American form but it is not one I've come across in more than 20 years appraising furniture of all vintages and areas of origin. It's possible this was used for opium or tobacco but that form is not very common. Otherwise, you're all set.
