Hello David,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, decoration elements and the glass, I concluded that this is a Slag Glass Lamp dating to early 20th century. Based on the statements I can tell the base material and the body are made of bronze, while the upper part is made of glass and bronze frames that has a structural and decorational value for the piece at the same time. These sort of pieces became very famous in around mid to late 19th century. They were very prestigious decorative lighting elements due to their elegant designs and valuable materials such as bronze and handmade glass.

Your piece have some very characteristic designs on it's bronze base and bronze body, these patterns are the patterns we usually see in ancient roman corinthian column bases. Which was a very famous concept back in late 19th and early 20th century. All designs on bronze parts are floral designs, which can be read as an ongoing effect of Art Nouveau ecole alongside the Neo-classicism. The glass parts on the crown of the piece are hand made by the glass artists, they are probably intented to look like marble which is very appropriate for the period. At that period marble was a symbol of prestige.
