Hello David, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, porcelain and metal quality, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted Metal Box with a Porcelain Top. The piece appears to be painted and made in around 1930's and 1940's. The piece has a Chinese Style painting on it but during this period there were also European Ateliers depicting Chinese Style. The piece has a mark on it which apperas to be pseudo-Chinese, also Chinese pieces were not marked in this way on top usually. Hence, the piece is likely madein Europe. The piece depicts two large torches and a tower with a connecting bridge. The painting is of average quality and the pieces was a intended as a souvenir likely. The piece is likely made of silver but there appears to be no sign of "silver sterling" or "925" marks. The piece is a decorative object and a collectable. The piece is in good condition without visible problems. Entirely hand made. Dimensions: 3 1/2 Inches Wide by 4 1/2 Inches Long by 4 Inches Tall. Condition: The piece is in good condition without visible problems. Provenance: Brought back after WWII by the current owner's grandfather. 70-150$.
