Hello Judy, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Indian Kashmir Rug in a contemporary style of knotting. The piece dates back to the period between 2000-2002. Piece's made in Kashmir area of India are made sometimes by using Cashmere, Cashmere is a fabric made of a local goat's wool. It has a silkish appearance with a shiny look. The piece's pattern is characterized by a central medallion layed in the vertical axes. The circular small panels around the medallions are filled with different types of animal motifs. This pattern was most probably adopted from the Persian Hunting style Rugs. The colour palette on the other hand in different from Persian pieces and are more like an interpretation of Indian origin. The piece has a very elaborate design and a very high knot density. Due to this superior knot density, the motifs on the piece are rendered in high quality. On the borders, tree of life figures are observable. In the central area, we can see a base which was styled as aclassical Tabriz rug. The knotted design on the white base is smaller basic flower motifs in red colour. The foundation of the piece is made of silk while the pile was likely made of Cashmere material. The piece is in very good condition and quality in terms of execution and there are no visible problems on it. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 175 Centimeters by 300 Centimeters Condition: The piece is in very good condition and quality in terms of execution and there are no visible problems on it.
