Hello Kyle, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, materials and the design, I concluded that this is a Hand Made and Hand Painted Japanese Sword, in Katana style. This piece dates back to the period between 1940-1960. It's design is mostly adapted from the army swords but the scabbard in the majority of the army swords was metal and not wooden. There is a serial number of "66694" on the piece but there is no makers marks or factory mark identifiable on the piece. The handle of the piece was wrapped by dark green(khaki) coloured fabric, usually seen in army type swords. The metal ornamental details on the scabbard and on the guard are made of low copper percentage bronze. A certain amount of giltwork was probably applied on the metal surfaces but they appear to be worn off. The blade is made of shiny steel. The wooden and black painted scabbard. The piece is in fair condition with a visible damage on the scabbard and signes of use and age. Entirely hand made. Dimensions: 41 Inches Long Condition: The piece is in fair condition with a visible damage on the scabbard and signes of use and age. Provenance: Unknown. 120-150$.
