Hello Kyle, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, materials and the design, I concluded that this is a Hand Made and Hand Painted Japanese Sword, known also as Katana. This small ones are known as Chisa Katana. This piece dates back to the period between 1950-1980. Based on the floral decoration on the sword and it's scabbard we can say that this was an export aimed souvenir for the Western market since this kind of decoration is not seen as traditional, appropriate in Japan. Blade of the piece is likely steel as traditionally made, the decoration on the blade might not be intended but rather a chemical process with the metal, or the decoration seriously ware off since a pattern is not recognisable. The guard of the piece, also known as "Tsuba" is decorated with a floral pattern in harmony with the scabbard's design. The guard is likely made of bronze material as well as the lower part of the scabbard. The piece is in good condition without any damages, small signes of age. Entirely hand made. Dimensions: 25 Inches Long Condition: The piece is in good condition without any damages, small signes of age. Provenance: Unknown. 80-120$.
