Hello Michele, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkmen Bukhara Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1960 to 1980. The piece was classically decorated with one of the most well known pattern of the Bukhara tradition, The Diamond pattern. The piece's central area was decorated with use of duplicated diamond shapes. The colour palette of the piece is representing a classical Bukhara palette with a bright red base and black, pale orange, white details on motifs. These diamond motifs are also sometimes interpreted as sun representations. Borders of the piece were also decorated classically in Bukhara style with geometrical duplicated motifs. The piece was knotted wool on wool. The production origin is not certain, likely Turkenistan but Persian pieces of this type were also common in 1970's. The piece's knot density is average for a piece like this and the motifs are rendered clearly. The piece is in good condition with small signes of use and age. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 32 Inches by 48 Inches Condition: The piece is in good condition with small signes of use and age. Provenance: Previously owned by Anita Norman of San Diego . Heavily decorated by traditional Bukhara patterns. 400-600$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
