I believe this is a rifle musket made by the Confederate military out of Richmond Virginia. The markings appear to say it's from 1863 behind the hammer/lock and Richmond VA on the lock plate. The barrel is 40 in in length and with stock its 56 in. The gun is in rough shape and appears to have been left in a barn for a while. The lock and trigger mechanism however does function. The barrel is smooth bore with a width of about 3/4ths of an inch.

Dear Sean, Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry. The presented object appears to be a Civil War Confederate Richmond rifle. It is marked Richmond and dated 1863. Usually, those rifles sell between 4.000 to 7.000 Euros This piece is in a bad condition and there is are serious corrosion damages visible in the images provided. This lowers the estimate. A fair market estimation would be between 400 to 800 USD. This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary. With kind regards, Georg
