Early 1800s double barrel shotgun by Richard Hollis, London, England. Initials and last name of owner, HLDLewis, hammered into stock. H.L. Daingerfield Lewis (1841-1893) was the son of Lorenzo Lewis (1803-1847) whose great grandmother was Martha Washington. Given the dates, it seems likely that the gun's original owner was Lorenzo, who passed it on to his son. The gun has been lightly restored and appears to be in excellent condition.

The lock plate is decorated with engravings and the maker's name Richard Hollis. The stock has the owner's "HLDLewis" name inlaid with brass. This rifle was made in the first half of the 19th century. Comparable objects were recently offered and sold on the international auction market. This piece is in medium condition and no severe damage is visible in the images. A fair market estimation would be between 250 to 500 USD.
