Hello George, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, mark and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted South-East Asian Porcelain Plate, dating back to the period between 1940-1970. The dark blue, almost cobalt colour of paint is a classical indication of the Chinese style but the general decoration, mark and the precision as well as the style does not add upp with the Chinese origin. Therefore, this piece was likely made in the South-Eastern Asian countries like Vietnam or Thailand. The unprecise painting and the writing characters helps us undrstand this origin. As most of the items from this reigon, the porcelain plate adapts a Chinese traditional decoration. Most of the plate is left blank which indicates a less carefull and important production almost like a mass production. During this period, South-Eastern Asian countries were involved in production of less qualified porcelain pieces and their export to the Western market mostly as souvenirs or decoratice objects. The writing on the upper surface which was constructed by etched marks islikely the name of the producer. In good condition without any visible faults. Entirely hand painted.
