Hello Maura, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persia Tabriz Style Area Rug made in Pakistan. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1980 to 2000. The piece is entirely florally decorated with classical Persian flowers and with slight inspiration from Oushak Rugs. The piece has a contemporary interpretation of Tabriz style and is quite different from classical pieces in appearance. Classical pieces tend to have smaller motifs and a heavier decoration that requires more craftmanship. The colour palette is also quite different. The piece is centrally decorated and therefore has a central medallion, this central medallion is characterized as a round flower which is also influenced from Indo-Pakistani reproduction style. The central area was decorated on a balck base, which is rarely seen in classical Persian piece. Black as a definitive colour is usually avoided in Persian pieces. The borders of the piece are characterized by floral patterns with leaves and are dcorated on a Beige base. Although overall decoration is made aiming it to look like a Tabriz piece, the rug is visibly a reproduction from Pakistan. These are less sought after in the rug market. The piece is knotted wool on a cotton foundation. The knot quality of the piece is average bu the motifs are rendered in high quality due to their large sizes. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 8 Feet by 10.2 Feet Condition: The piece is in good condition without any visible problems. Provenance: Unknown. Heavily decorated by Tabriz patterns. 2200-2800$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
