Hello Martin, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Tabriz Rug, dating back to the period between 1950-1970. Tabriz rugs are one of the mostly widely known Oriental and Persian rugs of all times and the rug production in the Northern Iranian city has been executed since the early early 16th century. Best examples of the 16th and century were knotted here during the reign of the Safavids. As a famous concept in contemporary Tabriz pieces, your piece adopts clearly a hunting scene. The scene was depicted in two parts which were created by symmetrically dividing the composition on your piece. The central base colour of the piece is a pale Turquoise which creates a perfect harmony Ivory tones used on the animal depictions. On the center of the rug we can detect two hunters alongside flora motifs, although rugs with hunting scenes usually lack a central medallion, these hunters were somehow knotted as a centeral medallion to this rug. Adopting a modest composition and colour palette in comparison to central decoration, the borders also depicts several huntings scene with archers and deers. Floral motifs alongside huntings scnese were knotted both decorationally and to create an impression of a forest. Knot quality of your piece is average and motifs are rendered a little muddy in comparison to most Tabriz examples. This tone of Turquoise is rare in terms of Tabriz rugs with hunting scenes. Knotted wool on wool. The piece is in very good condition without any visible or stated faults. Quite large for a hunting scene rug from this period. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 14 Feet by 12 Feet Condition: The piece is in very good condition without any visible or stated faults. Provenance: Purchased from an art dealer 20 years ago by the current owner. Heavily decorated by traditional Tabriz Hunting Scene patterns. 3500-4000$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
