Hello Laura, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Nan Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1960 to 1980. Nain rugs are one of the most sought after kind of Persian pieces due to their pale tones which are perfect fit for modern interiors. This piece is a contemporary one with a classical pattern. The pattern is composed of a central medallion designed as a single flower and also internnaly florally decorated. Classical Ardabil style leaves and Persian Flowers are sorrounding the central medallion and creating a harmony in colours and in design. Lanterns of the piece do hang from both sides of the central medallion stylized as ice blue flowers with branches from four sides. The central decoration of the piece was knotted on a white base surrounded by a limited dark blue are on all four sides. The borders on the other hand are decorated on a ice blue base. The knot density of the Nain pieces are quite high, therefore the motifs on the piece are rendered in a clear quality. The piece was knotted wool on cotton. The fringes are in need of restoration and there is some serious loss to them. The piece is in fair condition with no other visible problem than significant loss to it's fringes. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 5 Feet by 3.5 Feet Condition: The piece is in fair condition with no other visible problem than significant loss to it's fringes.
