Hello Helene, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Contemporary Style Rug with interpretations from Nain, Kirman and Fars Provinces. The piece dates back to the period from 1970 to 1980. The piece appears to be woven Wool on Silk as usual to Nain Rugs. The piece does not adopt a central decoration and lacks a central medallion. The piece's central area is decorated with panels, which is usually seen in Kirman pieces. The panels are lemon shaped and due to their shape the design is quite dynamic. The central area was knotted on a dark navy coloured base while the borders were knotted on a Beige coloured base. The piece is entirely florally decorated with floral motifs which also include strawberries and star motifs. The borders are quite similar to the traditional Nain pieces. The knot density of the piece is quite high, likely around 300 KPSI. Therefore the motifs were rendered clearly and precisely. The piece is in good condition without visible problems. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 8 Feet by 10 Feet Condition: The piece is in good condition without visible problems. Provenance: Previously owned by the current owner's grandmother. Heavily decorated by eclectic patterns from Nain, Fars and Kirman Rugs. 2000-4500$.
