Hello Chris, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is a Vintage Persian Malayer Rug made in Iran, dating back to the period between 1960-1980. Malayer rugs are one of the most famous semi-tribal rugs of all Oriental Rugs. They have very characteristic motifs from different periods. These motifs and the pattern we see on your piece resembles later pieces from 1970’s. Earlier pieces almost always had more heavily decorated patterns. Your piece has a central decoration on it’s center but unlike many Persian Rugs this central decoration is not so lavish or obvious. Instead it blends in with the rest of the repeating pattern. Most of the decoration is floral, there are two depictions of vases on each side. Colour of your piece is very well reflects the characteristics of Malayer Pieces, the wool quality is of average quality for contemporary pieces. Your piece appears to be knotted wool on cotton. It is in fair condition with a single defect on the left upper corner. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 7 Feet by 5 Feet Condition: It is in fair condition with a single defect on the left upper corner. Provenance: In family collection of the owner since 40 years. Heavily decorated by traditional Malayer patterns. 300-400$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
