Hello Michele, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Tabriz Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1940 to 1960. The piece is following an antique mult medallion pattern which would date back to the early 19th century. The piece is centrally decorated with a very distinguished central medallion in pale Khaki and pale Saffron colour alongside detailed floral motifs. There are four additional medallions on each corner enriching the general decorative pattern. The piece also has two additional figures that resemble two "Trees of Life". These figures are seen at the exact middle of the central decorative area's edges. Tree of life figure is a very important figure and representation in Oriental Rugs. The figure represents the complexity and the timeline of a person's life, it is one of the most elegant representations of life in weavings. The piece is perfectly symmetrical, the decoration heavy with use of smaller scaled floral motifs. The piece's central are is decorated on a red base while the borders were knotted on a dark blue base. The piece's knot density is average to high, therefore the motifs are rendered clearly.
