Believed to be a British 1796 cavalry saber with a 31 5/8" blade and 5 5/8" handle. Scabbard has a dent on it. Leather is flaking off the handle, blade is very rusty on the tip and some rust on the other areas of the blade. Blade has a crack through it from the blunt side going towards the sharp edge about 1/2" long. Handle is steal. Engrave marking are: P.KNECHT on one side, the other SOLINGEN.

The presented object appears to be a German cavalry sword with scabbard orientated to the British 1796 cavalry sword pattern This piece or the blade was made by the company P. Knecht in Solingen which is a center for swordsmiths in Germany who exported their blades to the whole world. This piece is in bad condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided. A fair market estimation would be between 80 to 160 USD. This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary. With kind regards, Georg
