Hello Martin, I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal, Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Tabriz Rug, dating back to the period between 1930-1960. Tabriz rugs are one of the mostly widely known Oriental and Persian rugs of all times and the rug production in the Northern Iranian city has been executed since the early early 16th century. Best examples of the 16th and century were knotted here during the reign of the Safavids. Your piece adapts a very complicated pattern that expert weavers and true artists could only be able to knot. The florally decorated pattern of your piece was knotted on an Ivory coloured base. On both ends of the central area, the decoration was enhaced by a vase figure. A vase figure was the most common way in Persian Rugs to enhance the prestige of a florally decorated rug. The piece has very gentile tones of blue and green. Some tones of green which we can name as Khaki is adding a certain elegant look to the piece. Boteh designs on the corner were knotted on a green base and is like a mark of the piece which helps us to attribute it to Tabriz, Iran. Domes were created in yellow colour on both sides which probably resembles mosques and telling a story that the wa to the garden of heaven is through the way of going to mosque. Your carpet was depicted as a garden of heaven in this case. All motifs are floral. The knot quality of your piece is over average and therefore the motifs were rendered clearly with high precision. It is a perfect piec eof art and a very highly decorative interior. The piece is in good preserved condition without any faults. Entirely hand knotted. Dimensions: 10 Feet by 13.5 Feet Condition: The piece is in good preserved condition without any faults. Provenance: Purchased from an art dealer 20 years ago by the current owner. Heavily decorated by traditional Tabriz patterns. 4500-6000$. Please don’t hesitate to reach us again for more online appraisals on your precious items, thank you for choosing Mearto.
